Vigo 2002WELCOMEAnother year has gone by. It seems only yesterday that we were all browsing through the previous Xornada’s evaluation sheets and making notes of your suggestions, criticims and fortunately, many praises; for all of these we thank you. Two Thousand and You, the title of this year’s Xornadas marks the begining of what we hope will be a new trend in APIGA –catering for the real needs of English Teachers in Galicia today-. It has become obvious that teacher training as APIGA has offered it up till now is slowly dwindling in demand. From your responses to courses, events, facilities and also through various surveys, it was decided that the time had come for some changes. We have therefore divided the Xornadas into three well defined sections with the aim to offer a wider choice, and reduced its length to facilitate the obtention of permission to attend the event. Heeding some of your recomendations, there will be more talks for Primary and Infants with a proportional offer of specific talks for Secondary and Bacharelato. However, you will also find a new section that we have named General and that offers talks aimed at all teachers of English: these workshops range from general didactic topics to culture, literature, computers, translation, information updates ... the choice is all yours!! Finally, but by no means the least important, we hope you enjoy this year’s Xornadas here in Vigo, that you meet old friends and find the cordial atmosphere that has always characterised APIGA events. We will also be looking forward to reading your comments on the evaluation sheets and don’t forget to join us on Friday night, we’re celebrating the Xornadas’ coming of age: this year we’re eighteen! Our warmest regards to you all, The Organising Team. Asociación de Profesores de Inglés de Galicia Departamento de filoloxía inglesa, francesa e alemana da Universidade de Vigo Two thousand and you
University of Vigo students can obtain credits for their course. For details, ask at the English Department of the University of Vigo or phone APIGA. Registration starts at the Centro Cultural Caixavigo at 3pm. All workshops on Friday and Saturday morning will take place at IES do Castro. Note that the afternoon times have changed from previous conferences: now the first session starts at 5.00 and the second one at 7.00. This year it's going to be even easier to find out who the intended audience for each workshop is: all sessions in rooms 101 and 201 are for Primary and/or Infants; all sessions in rooms 206 and 218 are for secondary. Most others are of general interest. |

Conference updateThe conference booklet is now in the press. Changes to the timetable may be necessary for different reasons but they won't get into the printed programme. For that reason, you should check this section of the web site. At the IES do Castro, changes will be announced on a "Last-minute changes" slip in your folder and on posters by the information desk. The general outline and the lists of speakers and sessions will also be updated. |
